KU - NAN AND THE TIGER KING (a mongolian Tale ) part3
Riding on a yellow cloud was a ogre with the body of a man and the head of a tiger. He was covered
with golden hair.He came chasing down on them. Ku-Nan turned and let a arrow fly, it hit the tiger king in the left eye. This caused the oger to sream in a rage he reached out and grabed Ku-Nan off his poney.
With a singel blow he drove Ku- Nan waist deep into the ground.He instantly wriggled out and went after the oger. With one stroke he drove the tiger king into the ground up to his neck, then with his dagger he killed the tiger king.
He pulled the carcass out of the ground and draging it by the leg he caught up with his poney.Ku-
Nan and the girl then returned to her home.Her father was so overjoyed to see her he wept uncontrolably.
He gave her hand in marriage to Ku-Nan. They stayed the night in the yurt. At daylight Ku-Nan was preparing to leave with his new wife and the tiger king body when they herd a howling wind approching
from the noth. Ku-Nan turned to look and saw a group of tigers coming after them. They were the tigers from the cave.
Ku- Nan sent his wife into the yurt for safty. He shot the tiger in the lead with an arrow through his head. Then he drew his dagger and stroad twoards them .A terrible battle ensued. In a few minutes he
had killed seven or eight of the tigers. Ku-Nan was begining to tire and there were three more tigers coming after him. Just as Ku-Nan was on the point of uter exhaustion and about to collapse ,the old shepherd and ten young lads came rushing in to help. They brought poles with nooses on them,the kind used to catch horses with. They caught and killed the remaining tigers.Ku-Nan was greatful for their
help.Again he took his new wife and started for his parents home.
When the khan saw that Ku-Nan had brought him the tiger kings body, he ordered Ku-Nan's
beautiful new wife to make him a cloak from the king's skin. She made it and gave it to ku-Nan to give to the khan. When ku-Nan gave it to him he was very pleased with it.
The khan had a platform built outside his yurt. He invited all the important people in the land to a huge feast and to show off the cloak. He was so full of himself he thought every one would envy him.
After everyone was there and the feast had just begain the khan ordered the cloak to be brought to him. As he put the cloak on he changed into a multi color tiger.He made a deafening roar, bounded off the platform and begain attacking the guests. He bit and wounded many of the people.Everyone was running, screaming and trying to hide from him.
At that moment Ku-Nan arived.He saw a multi color tiger chasing people and mauling them, he was horrified. He had left his bow and arrows at home. He didnt even have his dager. As he watched
in horror the tiger charged right at him. Ku-Nan stood his ground and waited until the beast came with
in reach. Then with the swiftness of an egal grabbed it by the tail and beat it against the ground ten
times. The tiger was dead.
Ku-Nan spent the rest of his life hunting and sharing what he had with the poor. His people loved him and it was said that he was one of the greatest khans that ever lived.
