WHY DOGS HATE CATS
A long long time ago there was an old man who lived in a house surounded by a high fence.
He never went out even to buy food. He had no family but he lived with a dog and cat. People in the
village could not rember who he was. He had always been there as long as any could remeber.
One day a local theif climbed up on a neighbors roof . He wanted to see over the fence. He saw a beautiful garden and ponds. The house was so beautiful that a emporer could of lived there. He
jumped over the fence and snuck into the house. He hid behind the door in the main room and waited.
soon a very old man came into the room with a large dog and a cat close behind. The old man sat at
the table and asked the dog what he wanted to eat. The dog barked and the old man answered him
that that is what he thought he would say. He then took a jade wand from his sleve waved it in the air
and pointed at the table. A very large bowl of beef stew apeared.
The old man asked the cat the same question, the cat meowed and the wand was againused. This time a large plate with a cooked trout apeared. Then the old man waved the wand and a plate of food apeared for him. when the three were done eating the wand was again used and the dirty dishes disapeared. The three then left the room and headed to bed.
The dog ran ahead hoping to sleep at the head of the bead, but the cat was faster and the dog
curled up at the foot of the bed. The three of them were soon asleep. The thief crept out and stold the wand ,which had been left on the table. And so it was when the oldman, dog and cat woke the next
morning the wand was gone. The old man put his head in his hands and wept. "I am too old to chase through the village to find the thief. We are doomed".He begain to weep harder. The dog and cat both
licked his hands and tryed to comfort him.He stopped crying and looked at them. He said to the dog,
"Will you be my strong legs and go find him?" Then he turned to the cat and asked,"Will you be my
clever mind and get my wand back?" They both answered him and started on their way.
They wandered through the village surching for the thief. The dog learned to snif around for food
people had thrown out. Somtimes he had to fight other beggers for it.But he always shared everything with the cat. The cat learned to jump throughpeoples windows and help its self to any food it found. It
would eat most of the food and if it was full would bring the dog what was left.
They followed the thiefs trail through village after village until they came to a very wide river.
They could find no bridge or boat to cross the river. The cat talked the dog into letting it climb up on
his back and the dog started swiming across. The river was very strong and cold and the dog was starting to strugel and tiring fast. When he thought he couldn't go on the cat told him to think about home, their
master and warm food. The dog swam on and finally made it across. When the dog was on the shore
the cat jumped off and ran ahead. The dog could barely walk but he trudged on.
They finally found the thief in a very large house, with lots of expensive possesions. They hid in the garden until night. They snuck in the house and found the thief asleep. He had the wand around
his neck and he had two guards watching over him. The dog attacked the guards and the cat jumped for
the wand.
The guards were beating the dog as the cat landed on the thief. The thief woke up and grabed for
the wand. The cat bit him and put its paws on the wand it wished itself home. The old man was so happy
to see the cat and the wand.
A month later there was a knock on the gate. When the old man and cat opened the gate, there was the dog.He was so thin and covered in sores from being beaten and worn out from his journey. The old man swore at the dog ,yelled at him and slamed the gate closed in the dogs face. The cat had the old man beliving that the dog had run off and not helped at all in getting the wand back.
The cat lived happily with the old man in the house. The dog eventually made its way to the country and a poor family took it in.
The dog never forgot how wrongly the cat had treated him. This story has been passed down
from generation to generation of puppies. This is why dogs hate cats!
